You walk up to the edge of a pond. The moment is absolutely still, not a breeze in the air, the surface of the pond might be a solid piece of glass. You pick up a boulder about the size of your head, heave it up over your shoulders and toss it into the water. The boulder breaks through the surface and drops to the bottom, completely unaware of the disturbance it’s caused. But you see it. The splash is huge, like an explosion. A flock of ducks scatters, a school of fish darts away. The disturbance spreads as concentric rings ripple across the surface of the pond, all the way to the shore, and now tiny waves are lapping at your feet. With one simple action, you’ve completely altered the environment and created an effect on the creatures in it. This is called the ripple effect: when an initial disturbance spreads outward to affect an increasingly larger portion, like ripples expanding across the surface of the water.
Here at IMS, we like to create ripples. We do that by building boulders. And that’s where you come in. We’re currently accepting applications for our Apprentice Program where you will have the opportunity to train to become an IMS Trainer. Through the course of their training, each of our Apprentices will touch the lives of at least 32 unique individuals. Each of those people have family, friends, and colleagues who are impacted in turn. And each of those family members, friends, and colleagues have family, friends, and colleagues. You see where this is going. The ripple effect. When you work one-on-one with a client, guiding them to create the life they’ve only dreamed of, it’s like throwing a boulder into the pond. The effects spread far beyond just the point of impact.
Carol was a stay at home mom with two kids. She loved being a wife and mother but certain emotional patterns were keeping her from being the wife and mother she always imagined she would be. She was quietly suffering and her suffering was creating its own ripple effect throughout her life. Her marriage was crumbling because her husband didn’t know how to help and he was getting fed up with trying. Her kids were in a constant state of anxiety and fear because mom and dad were always going at it. It seemed there was no light at the end of the tunnel.
After engaging with one of our Apprentices, Carol began to see what was possible. Armed with the proper tools, techniques and strategies, she was able to train new emotional patterns that aligned with the life she wanted to create. She started to implement those new patterns and guess what? It was like the boulder crashing through the surface of the pond. Her marriage was revitalized, her relationships with her children began to thrive. But those were just the first ripples. Relieved from the pressure of a failing marriage, Carol’s husband found a fresh start of his own. Inspired by Carol’s transformation, he started to work on his own emotional state. As a result, he found new passion in his career and began to make progress like he never had before. Carol’s kids, her friends, other family members all felt the impact of the work Carol had done and became determined to improve themselves.
I could go on and on with countless examples of people just like Carol. A young professional whose training inspired his entire company to reimagine its culture principles. A seasoned veteran who led his team to surpass all expectations. A teacher who brought her training to the classroom and, over the course of her career, will bring inspiration to the lives of thousands of children. All the results of individuals engaging with one of our IM Apprentices and embarking on a journey of personal mastery.
