What It Means to Train the Personality

So you decided it’s time to finally pull the trigger and get that puppy you’ve always wanted. You take the time, do your research, and find a little guy that checks all the boxes. For the first couple of weeks, you’re in heaven. He’s just such a cute little sucker you can’t stand it. He cuddles up in bed with you at night and wakes you in the morning with wet kisses and nibbles. He loves to go on walks and everywhere the two of you go, people swarm around to get a good look and give him a little pet behind the ears. It’s everything you ever imagined it could be. Even finding his little poops on the carpet brings a smile to your face.

That was in the beginning, anyway. After a month or so, the little poops aren’t so cute anymore. Every room you walk into smells like pee. He’s chewed up three pairs of shoes, both arms of the sofa, and the strap on the Louis Vuitton bag you spent six months saving up for. Of course you still love the little furball more than life itself but, let’s face it, the honeymoon is over. It’s time to get serious and start training some better behaviors. But you’ve never trained a dog before and you have no idea how to go about it. The good news is, you’re a natural problem solver and you realize that you’re basically looking at a three step process: Identify the behaviors you want to change, do the research and learn the best training techniques, then get down to the business of doing the work. It’s not rocket science, but it takes time, commitment, and persistence.

In a way, training your personality is not all that different from training your puppy not to poop in your favorite pair of slippers. It’s just a little more complex. Afterall, the puppy didn’t come to you carrying a lifetime of emotional luggage that needs to be unpacked, sifted through, and reorganized. That’s exactly what we do at our Power Series programs. We train the personality. In a nutshell, here’s how we do it: 1. We pick a space in life that you’d like to see up-level (career anxiety, relationship problems, health challenges) 2. We pop the hood to see what emotions, thoughts and actions are currently present in that space 3. We teach you how to transform it into the results you want.

Let’s say, for example, you’ve spent the last ten years trying to drop that extra twenty pounds and get your body into tip-top shape. You’ve tried every diet and self-help book on the market. You’ve tried low fat, no fat, nothing but fat. Pilates, yoga, weight-training. But you just can’t stick to any one regimen for more than a week or two. Eventually, the pancakes and Ben & Jerry’s come calling and the diet and exercise go right out the window. See, the problem is not with the food itself, it’s with the emotional patterns around your relationship with food. Remember, emotions drive the thoughts, and together those emotions and thoughts drive the actions. If we want to change a habit that isn’t serving us, we must first understand the emotions and thoughts that are driving us to engage with the habit in the first place. Once we have a solid understanding of the emotions, thoughts, and actions, and we can see that they will never create the results we want, we can deactivate them and train new patterns that will.

The same concepts apply to every aspect of our lives. Whether it’s our relationship with money and career, our relationship with health and diet, or our relationship with the people in our lives, it is the emotional patterns that were developed in early childhood that drive our behavior towards all of them. And we can change those behaviors in order to align them with the vision we have for the life we wish to lead. Like training the puppy not to eat the furniture, it just takes knowledge, commitment, and perseverance.

Whatever area of life you’re looking to improve, we are here to support you to create the results you want. We will provide you with the tools and the training, all you have to do is decide to use them. Click HERE to learn more about the Power Series and sign up for a program today!
